Artist: Lillian Carland
An Australian (European background) artist who lived
on three continents; Europe, Asia and Australia
hence she intentionally explores various themes,
styles and influences. Carland paints with passion.
Her prolific output is around 6000 works and over
120 exhibitions.
Lillian studied languages and art at various art
schools in Europe and in Australia. She received art
education at the Western Technical and Further
Education College (TAFE) in Melbourne, Victorian
College of the Arts in Melbourne and Royal
Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) where she
complete a postgraduate degree mentored by
professor Domenico de Clario and professor Godwin
Breadbeer, both well known international artists.
In terms of style, Lillian's work is consciously and
constantly changing as she continues to explore new
styles from abstract to realistic.
She exhibited in Europe, Asia, Australia and Canada.
Paintings on this website are mainly small to
miniature size works painted in the last 24 years in
Australia and in China.
Significant Exhibitions and Reviews
Museum of Contemporary Art, Chamaliers, France:
Triennale Mondiale DʼEstampes Petit Format 1991; Carrefour Europe Chamalieres – Auvergne – France
– 1991, featured 590 artists from various countries. Carland presented three etchings.
National Museum of Yugoslavia, Belgrade,
Yugoslavia: Likovno Stvaralastvo Srba u Svetu –
1990, featured artists from the diaspora in various
countries. The collection of the Serbian Artists in the World was created. Carland exhibited two works on
Childhood memory, both oil on linen. Carland's
artworks are a part of the Collection now.
National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia 30
Nov – 12 Dec 1991 Tradition and Cosmopolitanism, featured 15 artists. Carland presented two works
called Ferocious Storm; oil on board
Diplomatic Circle Gallery, Shanghai, PR China, 2002;
Two Women – Two Visions. Carland presented the works based on Zhao Jun's photography of
Shanghai. Also featured other large size paintings
from Australia. This exhibition was sponsored by a
diplomatic mission in Shanghai and featured in
Shanghai Daily.
Artlink, 'Arts in Multicultural Australia', 1991, Vol 11,

launched in the National Gallery of Victoria on 13
